American Cinematographer Manual!

Dear Friends,

This book literally has EVERYTHING you need to know! It’s an intensive read and it will cost you a pretty penny but it’s worth the risk if you want to make cinematography your life long career!

  1. I have to agree to disagree. The ASC manual is very complete. The thing is, it is really only a reference book and it relates almost entirely to shooting film.

I have owned every edition of the ASC manual since 1980 (I’m a professional DP) and the number of times I have actually looked up something in any one of them could be counted on your fingers. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great, but it is only a reference book.

For real education, there are some great books out there — Cinematograpy: Theory and Practice by Brown, Cinematography by Malkiwicz and a few others.
