This book literally has EVERYTHING you need to know! It’s an intensive read and it will cost you a pretty penny but it’s worth the risk if you want to make cinematography your life long career!
I have to agree to disagree. The ASC manual is very complete. The thing is, it is really only a reference book and it relates almost entirely to shooting film.
I have owned every edition of the ASC manual since 1980 (I’m a professional DP) and the number of times I have actually looked up something in any one of them could be counted on your fingers. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great, but it is only a reference book.
For real education, there are some great books out there — Cinematograpy: Theory and Practice by Brown, Cinematography by Malkiwicz and a few others.
We do use affiliate links on our site. We are starving students and as such need to earn some kind of money. If you don't like the affiliates we link to, that's ok. You don't have to buy from them if you don't want to.
